A Journey to the core of North Kashmir, The beautiful valley of gurez to POk frontiers of Keran and so much more.

#KashmirChapter

There’s something profoundly liberating about hitting the open road solo on a motorcycle, especially when the destination is the rugged, untamed beauty of North Kashmir. As a passionate rider from India, I decided to embark on a 6-day adventure covering over 2500 km, weaving through valleys and sectors that feel like they’ve been plucked from a dream. My trusty companion? The Suzuki V-Strom 250 – a lightweight adventure bike that’s perfect for twisting mountain roads and off-the-beaten-path explorations. With its reliable 248cc engine delivering smooth power, comfortable ergonomics, and impressive fuel efficiency (I averaged around 35-38 km/l even on challenging terrain), it handled everything from highways to gravel like a champ.

This journey took me from the serene Gurez Valley to the border-hugging Keran Sector and the elusive Bangus Valley, blending adrenaline, solitude, and breathtaking vistas.

Day 1 — Ghaziabad to Jammu: The Long Warm-Up

The journey began with a long highway run toward Jammu.
Crossing Delhi NCR traffic, Punjab’s flat farmlands, and smooth expressways, I reached Jammu by evening—tired but excited.

Day 2 — Jammu to Shopian via the Historic Old Mughal Road

This day was a dream for every motorcycling enthusiast.

The Old Mughal Road, once a historical trade route, is now an offbeat alternative to the usual Jammu–Srinagar highway. The route climbs through forests, alpine meadows, and the iconic Peer Ki Gali pass, one of the most scenic stretches in Kashmir.

Reaching Shopian, known for its apple orchards and calm town vibes, I settled in for the night.

Day 3 — Shopian to Gurez Valley → Kupwara: Into the Heart of Remote Kashmir

From Shopian, I headed toward Gurez Valley, crossing stunning landscapes and less-traveled mountain roads. Entering Gurez, I was welcomed by the towering Habba Khatoon peak, the turquoise Kishanganga River, and vast silence only the Himalayas can offer. After enjoying Gurez, I continued my ride toward Kupwara, making it one of the most adventurous and longest riding days of the trip.

Day 4 — Kupwara → Keran → Bangus Valley → Back to Kupwara

This was the heart of the adventure.

The road to Keran runs alongside the mighty Kishanganga River, with Pakistan visible on the opposite side. Keran’s wooden houses, riverside views, and peaceful isolation make it one of the most surreal border villages in India.

Keran to Bangus Valley

From Keran, I rode towards the hidden treasure of Kashmir—Bangus ValleyThe off-roading, forest trails, and slushy sections tested both rider and machine, but the vast green meadows of Bangus made every challenge worth it.

Back to Kupwara

I returned to Kupwara by evening, completing one of the most scenic loops of the entire journey.

Day 5 — Kupwara to Jammu: The Return Across the Mountains

Leaving North Kashmir behind, I began the long journey back toward Jammu.
The familiar mix of mountains, rivers, and valley views kept the ride engaging throughout the day.

Day 6 — Jammu to Ghaziabad: Final Push Home

The last day was a test of stamina—an 850+ km ride from Jammu to GhaziabadCrossing multiple states in one day, I finally rolled into Ghaziabad late at night, ending the 6-day adventure exactly where it began—home.
